A new study aims to address injury prevention and control for children in Indigenous communities. The George Institute for International Health announced the project, called “Safe Koori Kids”, last week. The newly funded study will collect and analyse injury data, identify risk factors, as well as design, implement and evaluate culturally relevant strategies. According to the George Institute, injury is one of the leading causes of death, illness and disability amongst Indigenous Australians, particularly children. But Senior Research Fellow at the Institute, Kathleen Clapham, says so far, there has been almost no research into the issue. Ms Clapham says the new study will focus on a broad spectrum of injuries.
