One of Australia’s most important Aboriginal artworks by Rover Thomas went under the hammer yesterday and was tipped to fetch more than one million dollars. Christie’s auction house is still in negotiations over the final selling price, though yesterday’s highest bid was around $700 000. Despite the disapointment over the lower than expected sale, the auction has renewed concerns about the exploitation of Indigenous artists.
