On the wake of World Environment Day, new research released warns that as global temperatures rise deadly coral diseases are spreading and could become a common problem for reefs worldwide by the next century.

The study analysed coral health and disease, linking them to ocean temperature records.

Coral disease has tripled in the past 25 years and could reach higher numbers, if temperatures continue to rise.

Urgent action is needed to address climate change and protect coral reefs.
