The siege at Tasmania’s Risdon prison earlier this month drew national attention to problems that have been simmering within facilities that are not only overcrowded, but in a poor state of repair. The Prison Action Reform Group’s Carolyn Dean has been banned from visiting Risdon. Tasmanian Green MHA Nick McKim says the Attorney General’s decision to ban Ms Dean pre-empts the findings of an Enquiry into the siege.
