A 40 million dollar solar power station in the WA desert, designed to supply the power needs of the DeGrussa copper mine, is being supported by a 20 million dollar subsidy from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. Both the Agency and the Australia Institute defend this apparently generous subsidy to a private company saying it will be a landmark project with the potential to change the way things are done in remote Australia and in countries like Africa.
