Before tough new laws were introduced in Papua New Guinea last year the incidence of rape and abduction was high. Rapists are now sentenced with the death penalty, a move that has seen a swift decline in the offence.

The shock abduction and rape of two women from the National Broadcasting Commission this week has sparked outrage in PNG and a hunt for the perpetrators.
