The Queensland Government has apologised this afternoon for forced adoptions that occurred from the late 1950s to the mid 1970s. During this time newborn babies were taken from single mothers through both physical and psychological coercion and adopted out.

Today’s apology follows a Senate inquiry released earlier this year recommending all states, territories and the Federal Government apologise for forced adoptions. Queensland is the last state to apologise.
