Queensland has been watching with fascination as the state government first sacked and then reinstated Indigenous Affairs Minister Liddy Clark’s Advisor Therese Mullan over the so-called “winegate” affair. ATSIC Regional Councillor Terry O’Shane says the government and the media need to take a cold shower – and refocus on the important issues faced by indigenous communities. And the tiny and remote Mapoon community has been protesting the alcohol management plans as archaic and inappropriate. They say the “winegate” affair is clearly a case of “something coming back to bite them (the government)”.
