Push to raise Newstart allowance gains local government support

A meeting in Adelaide today brought together 11 councils pledging to support moves to raise the Newstart allowance. ACOSS President Cassandra Goldie is spearheading a campaign to bring the allowance to a level ‘less demeaning’ for recipients. She says raising the allowance would cost 4 billion dollars less than the current proposed tax cuts.
