Two of South Australia’s main coal-fired power stations are shutting down, and decisions are being made about what they will be replaced with: solar or gas. According to the Australian Youth Climate coalition, an overwhelming majority of the community want Australia’s first solar thermal plant to be built. This would create a clean and renewable long-term baseload energy supply for most of South Australia. While experts say the cost of implementing a gas pipeline might be cheaper, it will take hundreds of jobs away from the Port Augusta community.
