Is population growth our number one environmental problem or is population growth merely a reflection of social inequity? This was the question posed at the Australian Greens Party forum in Adelaide last night, with members keenly debating the dilemmas surrounding an ever-expanding population as the South Australian government is looking to increase it’s population to 2 million. Everything from women’s rights, structural political deficits and immigration were discussed, and the verdict looks to be that there is no easy answer – yet something must be done to prevent a crisis in the near future.
