Scientists involved at the cutting edge of organ transplantation gathered in Canberra today to discuss the prospect of using genetically modified pigs in human transplants. The procedure from animals to humans, known as Xenotranplantation isn’t an options at the moment, but researchers aren’t too far away. President of the International Xenotransplantation Association Professor Anthony D’Apice says with an aging population and kidney disease on the rise, the organ supply from human donations won’t be able to meet the demand.
