Motorists worried about even higher prices if cars are included in an emissions trading scheme were settled down by Prime Minister Rudd’s assurance that the petrol excise would be cut to cover any increases due to carbon taxing. Elliot Fishman is the Director of the Institute ofr Sensible Transport. He says it sends a mixed message on carbon emissions and does nothing to reduce car dependence.
