People who have finally made the decision to get help for drug or alcohol addictions will have to join a long queue if they live in South Australia. Waiting lists are already as long as three months, but they’re expected to blow out to as much as six months if the state’s largest drug and rehabilitation program ends up shutting down. A lack of funding may be the final straw for The Salvation Army’s Warrondi Program, which is already dealing with its own lengthy waiting list. Even more pressure will be added to the system with the government’s recent decision to ban smoking in its own rehabilitation centre. The Wire’s Ryneisha Bollard asked Executive Director Andris Banders from the South Australian Network of Drug and Alcohol Services how the rehabilitation sector is coping.
