It’s on the national agenda, but it seems the debate on gay marriage is going nowhere fast, after an inquiry into two gay marriage bills failed to say if either should become law. Unless the opposition leader Tony Abbott allows a conscience vote on gay marriage, it is unlikely that a bill will pass.

Adam Bandt says he would like to co-sponsor a bill with the coalition so that it has a greater chance of getting through. Meanwhile, some Labour MPs think there needs to be more community discussion before we change the Marriage Act.
