Last year, the world’s media watched as Israeli settlers were forced to withdraw from the Gaza Strip. Since then, life’s changed dramatically for the Palestinians now living on their own land, and it hasn’t necessarily changed for the better. Because the Palestinian authorities refuse to recognise Israel, all aid to the area has been frozen, resulting in a lot of hardship. The situation has become so desperate that yesterday we had the curious case of America agreeing to provide interim aid to the country.
