Our Unready Country in the Age of Terror

Emergency medicos from around the country gathered in Adelaide this week and the subject on top of the agenda was terrorism. Head of Singapore’s International Centre for Political Violence and Terorism, Dr. Rohan Gunaratnum, told the conference that Australia could most certainly expect to be the target for South East Asian terrorist groups like Jemaih Islamiah and that he had seen evidence that they were working on biochemical methods. Dr David Caldicott says that a simulation exercise run earlier this year by Adelaide Hospital showed that Australian hospitals are completely unprepared for such attacks, or even for conventional ones despite the government rhetoric.
