Today in Sydney, grandparents and welfare workers gathered to discuss an often unrecognized and unsupported childcare network. Over the last ten years, the number of grandparents raising their grandchildren has risen by 70%. At the moment that counts for 23,000 carers looking after around 31,000 children under 17. And that’s just the ones who have been formally recognized.
