Some people are making real inroads into Closing the Gap for Indigenous people – School children from all backgrounds and ages selected as Ambassadors for the self-funded Indigenous Literary Foundation are engaging with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children whose reading abilities indicate they have fallen behind.  Distance is a factor with higher levels in remote communities, often due to a lack of access to books.  Any school can help on September 4 with The Great Book Swap which encourages children to swap their favourite book and give a gold coin to go to books for children in an Indigenous community.
