Nyungar Know How
Environmental education organisation the Gould League has been educating the community about conservation and the environment for over 90 years. Recently they announced a new Teacher Professional Development program in partnership with Murdoch University. Nyungar Know How is a course designed to bring people in touch with the traditions, culture and language of Nyungar people of the South West of Western Australia and to help teachers design and deliver an Aboriginal Studies course that’s relevant, with strong ties to the local region linking Nyungar past and present.Murdoch university associate lecturer Marie Taylor told Rubena Colbey what course participants can expect.Nyungar Know How is held at the Herdsman Lake Wildlife Centre. The centre’s manager Roger Harris who came up with the idea of running this course as a part of professional development program also spoke to Rubena Colbey.
