About this time last year, South Australians won their battle against the Federal Government’s plans for a nuclear waste dump. But the battle ground has now moved to the Northern Territory. Territorians, starting with the government, have vowed to block plans for a nuclear waste dump in their backyard. Despite promising before last year’s Federal Election there would be no dump, the Howard Government has announced three possible sites for a radioactive waste management facility in the NT. One site, Fishers Ridge, is south east of Katherine. Harts Range and Mt Everard are near Alice Springs. All three are defence department properties.
