Prison officers have threatened to walk off the job if a Coalition Government introduces a prisoner needle exchange program in NSW. Harm minimization advocates say drug use in our prisons is already rampant and that a needle exchange would reduce the spread of HIV and other infections. The NSW Liberal Party, expected to win next month’s state election, says it is open to the idea of a needle exchange trial – but Labor claims it will create a drug paradise for convicted criminals.
