Amnesty International’s conference on the Status of Women begins in New York Today. All attending governments are being urged to protect and uphold women’s human rights. At the Fourth UN World Conference ten years ago, these governments agreed to adopt the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. At the 2005 conference, Amnesty International wants to appraise and review their progress. They also want governments to reaffirm their commitment to these human rights documents and to re commit to full implementation of women’s rights at a national level. Saria Rees Roberts spokesperson for Amnesty International in New York spoke to Ollie Abraham about the aims of this year’s conference.
