A new channel has hit Australian Television sets and it’s creating a stir. Frank Rijavec , Acting Manager of Indigenous Community Television has written to Communication’s Minister Helen Coonan about his concerns with the replacement National Indigenous Television. He says the new network, going out on Imparja TV’s second satellite is at the expense of ICTV and is looming as one of the biggest policy failures in Indigenous media. While it may be some time before the government’s 48 million dollar project settles in to the fickle world of television, The Wire looks at the reaction from audiences and speaks to Frank Motton from Pormpuraaw, a remote Aboriginal community in North, West Queensland. We ask him if he’s interested in the concept of NITV and the opportunities it may bring to his community.
