When a big mining company like Rio Tinto ends operation in regional areas, unemployment concerns are high. But when the Bauxite mine closed in the Gove Penninsual town of Nhulnbuy – 600 kilometres away from Darwin – local Government led business reforms have helped keep people in jobs. Simple policy changes have allowed enterprises like mobile food vans to pop up and ensure the north-east service hub continues to thrive.
