Record levels of sexual assault and rape have spurred the New South Wales State Government to appoint a special taskforce to improve the way the legal system handles sex crimes. 9,500 women were sexually or indecently assaulted in the last year according to The New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics, including 63 gang rapes and 320 instances of child sexual assault. A special new sex crimes court is just one of the measures that will be considered. Christine Baker spoke to Karen Willis, Manager of the New South Wales Rape Crisis Centre.
