Over 440 thousand Australians are living with a stroke, according to a study by the Stroke Foundation in 2023, and it highlights how often a patient requires medical support for the rest of their lives.

But how can this support be catered for the LGBTIQ+ community living with a stroke? It’s the question PhD candidate at the University of Sydney Willian Kokay is asking.

Now he’s looking to research what LGBTIQ+ stroke survivors need for recovery regarding relationships, intimacy, sexual activity and gender expression.
