New book sheds light on colonial past
It’s just a few years since Keith Windshuttle burst into the public eye, with books like The Fabrication of Aboriginal History, questioning the authenticity of the brutal colonial wars…Historians have now dusted themselves off, and after recovering from the sheer shock of Windshuttle’s propositions, have continued amassing evidence for over a hundred Aboriginal massacres across Australia, documented in diaries, letters, reports, and speeches. But a book to be released this Friday delves into the more personal realms of our bloody colonial past. Although the Massacre at Bluff Rock outside Tenterfield is reported to have taken place in 1844, Dr Katrina Schlunke says the stories New Englanders still tell today about the massacre – show the part we all play in remembering and understanding colonial history.
