Negroponte appointment goes ahead while Bolton faces opposition

Trouble for George Bush tonight, with speculation that Bush’s nominee to the United Nations, John Bolton, may be turned down, by the Senate’s Foreign relations committee later tonight. In recent days the committee has heard that Bolton physically harrassed State Department officials, while in his current job as the White House’s arms control chief. At least one Republican on the Foreign Relations committee must vote against Bolton to stop his nomination. And US media is reporting that two Senators may switch sides. But while Bush’s potential UN ambassador is looking shaky, he’s won a victory on another key nominations, with John Negroponte, appointed the first ever boss of the new National Security agency.
