Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced today a “speed trial” for regional wireless customers which should double the speeds that a big city ADSL2 customer currently receives. But with the fibre to the node model, we are still way behind countries like Korea, Hong Kong and Latvia. Additionally, over a quarter of iiNet’s traffic is coming from Netflix after just one month of service. Now Mr Turnbull appears to want to migrate community TV services to be delivered by internet – how will this work? Why do they need to free up the spectrum – will there be a revenue stream from spectrum sales and to whom.
