The Nationals’ decision to abandon net zero has been criticised by environmental advocates who say this could weigh heavily on agriculture and regional communities.

And, for one Singleton farmer, the move has prompted questions about the push for gas pipelines in the area.

While remote Australians, already bear the brunt of climate change, many warn a backflip on climate promises will see increased extreme weather events.

Sophie Nicols, a fourth-generation farmer, has adapted renewable energy for over four years. She says the Nationals’ decision highlights major disconnect between Nationals’ politicians and young farmers living in their electorates.
