National Sorry Day gets a new name
It’s been seven years since the first National Sorry Day was held and the spirit of the day will continue this year on the 26th of May. There’s one important difference, however… as The Wire reported last week, the National Sorry Day committee has renamed the event as the National Day of Healing. It’s more than just a name change, however, it signifies a broadening of the scope of the event to look at wider Indigenous issues including poverty, health and eduction. What will not change is the fight to make the government give an apology to the Stolen Generations. National Sorry Day Committee co-chairman Ray Minniecon is adamant the organisers have not given up that fight.
