National Sorry Day Committee apologises

The Co-Chair of the National Sorry Day Committee has apologised to members of the Stolen Generations and Indigenous people who may have been offended by the name change for this year’s Sorry Day. Gillian Brannigan says the Committee changed the May 26 event to the title of “Day of Healing” with concerns the word sorry was becoming too politicised. But at a recent AGM, members raised concerns over the new title and resolved to return the day to the original title, National Sorry Day. Sorry Day Committee Co-Chair Brian Butler says May 26 has and always will be Sorry Day, to mark the handing down of the Bringing them Home report into the Stolen Generations, 8 years ago.
