National Indigenous Television to become reality

It seems that the dream of National Indigenous Television, N.I.TV, will soon become a reality. Communications Minister Helen Coonan has announced 50 million dollars over four years to get N.I.TV off the ground, starting in the new financial year. But there two major challenges ahead for the N.I.TV Board. One is the troubled plan to sell the remainder of Telstra, which is where the funding will come from. The second is how best to get the broadcast in to people’s homes. N.I.TV Committee member and film-maker Rachel Perkins says the transmission will use Imparja’s second channel, on Optus Aurora.
