Coalescing community strengths and celebrating Indigenous achievements have been the focus of NAIDOC events so far this week, with a strong emphasis on the future of Indigenous Affairs post-ATSIC. New South Wales Labor MP for the seat of Canterbury, Linda Birney says Indigenous representatives will be hard-pressed not to keep a wary eye on the federal government’s plans for Native Title, as it’s expected to flex new political strength, having gained a majority in the Senate. The New South Wales Indigenous community and supporters are being encouraged to take to the streets of Redfern this Friday, to protest the federal governments’ vision for the future of Indigenous Affairs.
