Murray Darling Basin Plan fails to placate farmers or environmentalists

It’s been described as an historic day for Australia by Environment Minister Tony Burke, but neither farmers nor environment groups are happy with the announcement that the government will sign up to the Murray Darling Basin Plan. The government has accepted the recommendation of the Murray Darling Basin Authority, of 2750 gigalitres of water to be returned to the river, as well as promising an extra 450 gigalitres to get to the crucial 3200 mark. But there’s a catch.
