Moves to control re-development of ‘The Block’
There are claims that the New South Wales government has embarked on a program of ethnic cleansing in the inner-Sydney suburbs of Redfern and Waterloo. The state Minister overseeing the re-development, Frank Sartor has moved to take control of development planning for the region, making the area known as The Block, a site of State significance. The Aboriginal Housing Company is planning to build 62 residential units according to council regulations. Mr Sartor reportedly has promised to approve the building, as long as it’s not Aboriginal housing. Project Director with the AHC, Peter Valilis says he’s shocked the Minister would move to take control of the Planning process, at the beginning of National Reconciliation Week.
