More Trouble In Haiti
Previously on The Wire we’ve told you about the tumultuous situation in Haiti at the moment. Its current government was not democratically elected and it deals swiftly and harshly with Haitians who dare to question it. Father Gerard Jean-Juste is one such critic, and last week he again found himself the victim of a corrupt regime. Jean-Juste was presiding over the funeral of a murdered journalist, when a mob assembled and accused Jean-Juste himself of being the murderer. He was arrested and thrown in prison, where he remains today. New Orleans law professor Bill Quigley was present at the funeral and witnessed Jean-Juste’s arrest. He spoke to Lisa Leong.
