More Qantas job losses – but is it the first step into Asia?

On the back of the big banks announcing job losses QANTAS has now joined in. The airline has announced an 83 percent drop in profits and has warned of 500 job losses to come. But is it simply the beginning of its push into Asia?

The hardest hit will be the maintenance workers who Joyce says have become “structurally redundant” as the airline shifts from older to new aircraft that require less upkeep.While Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has promised no jobs will be moved overseas it won’t stop the airline moving into the Asian market.
