The Australian Democrats are doing their level best to put the issue of compensation for the Stolen Generation back on political agendas ahead of this year’s federal election. Labor says if they were elected, they would make a formal apology to the stolen generation – something John Howard refused to do back in 2000. Meanwhile, the Democrats have tabled a bill calling for a Tribunal to be set up to deal with Stolen Generation compensation claims.
