Monash IVF botches a second embryo transfer

Monash IVF clinic has disclosed a second incident in which the wrong embryo was transferred to one of their patients instead of the embryo from the woman’s partner. The error was revealed on Tuesday morning via a statement made to the Australian Stock Exchange.
This latest bungle follows a previous incident in April where the same company’s Brisbane clinic mistakenly implanted the wrong embryo into one of its patients, resulting in the birth of a baby with no genetic link to the woman who sustained the pregnancy.
Monash IVF has stated that it will conduct an internal investigation into the matter while simultaneously extending the scope of the investigation concerning the Brisbane patient.
Despite this, Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas has labeled the incident as ‘completely unacceptable’ with many calling for national regulation and oversight for the IVF industry.
