The collapse early this morning of a Gold mine in Ballarat evoked memories of the Beaconsfield mine disaster that killed one man and trapped 2 others for a fortnight. These events have focussed our attention on the issue of Mine safety and while the miners were rescued alive, Paul Howes of the Australian Workers Union says the Government’s Work Choices legislation is hampered the mining industry’s ability to conduct workplace safety training. The Wire asked him to back up his claims.
