The opening air strikes of the first Gulf War were somewhat of a novelty, thanks to the fact that you could watch them live on TV courtesy of CNN. The relationship between the media and the military has always been complicated, but it’s always interested Canadian filmmaker Peter Wintonick. In 1986 it was the subject of a movie he helped produce called The Journey. He spoke to The Wire about the movie and the ways in which the relationship between the military and the media has changed over the years.
