42 West Papuans were recently granted asylum in Australia – and Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono wasn’t happy. He ‘s only just resumed normal relations with our prime minister over the issue which he felt put Indonesia in a bad light .Next week the Government is set to debate changes to the Migration Act…changes which would see any future Papuans seeking refuge sent off to Nauru. It all feels a bit like déjà vu. That’s what the Refugee Council of Australia think – they’ve already presented a submission against the proposed changes.
