After being found guilty of a criminal sexual act in the first-degree and third-degree rape in New York last month, Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in jail earlier this week.

Weinstein’s trial was a symbolic one, as the initial sexual misconduct allegations against him in late 2017, were a driving force in the #MeToo movement going global.

However, sociologist and social commentator Eva Cox, argues that Australia’s MeToo movement has fallen by the wayside, as many of Australian cases of sexual misconduct have yet to progress as far as Weinstein’s has.
