Suggested changes to the handling of youth mental health in the Health Reform Commission Report could save money as well as minds. The report recommends investing 60 million dollars in headspace mental health centers. This would increase the number of centers around Australia from 30 to 60. Academics of mental health believe that investment in early intervention programs like headspace will reduce the severity of mental illnesses like bi-polar and schizophrenia. It could also save money as most people treated will avoid hospitalisation.
