Despite claiming its support for mental health, the Federal Government closed a comfortable and affordable back door into the system in this year’s budget. Under the Better Access health program, general practitioners could refer patients to mental health professionals – but now patients must seek direct mental health consultation, and pay for it. Now GPs around Australia are campaigning to get the program back.
