In November last year the International media reported the ‘discovery’ of 260 mass graves around Iraq and it wasn’t a pleasant story. According to some reports up to 600,000 bodies had been found and the magnitude of Saddam’s terrible rule was revealed for all to see. As it turns out no effort has been made by the US to recover the bodies of Iraqis killed during the long dictatorship and while many thousands were killed under Saddam, their whereabouts is unknown. UK journalist Brandan O’Neil spoke to Annie Hastwell from London. He said that in fact Britain and the US had made no attempt to exhume bodies in Iraq, leaving those seeking their lost family members to scratch around in the dirt.
