Mamdouh Habib’s David and Goliath battle with the Australian government has been put on hold as the government refuses to release “secret defence” documents to the case. The former Guantanamo detainee is suing for compensation, alleging that the government was aware of and did nothing about his 4 year imprisonment. He also accuses the government of being complicit in his rendition and torture in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Egypt. The Habib case highlights the expectations one citizen has of his government. But with little media attention around the case, does anyone really care?
