Low Voter Turn Out For the Iranian Elections

Many voters boycotted Friday’s Iranian elections following the recent disqualification of more than 2,000 reformist candidates. Although the official line is that about 60% of voters turned up, it seems that the actual figures are much lower, especially amongst the Kurdish community. Spokesperson for the Kurdish Human Rights Organisation, Hussein Tahiri, is an Iranian Kurd and political scientist now living in Australia.
